Fluance RT81 & Fluance RT85 Black Friday Deals 2021
Today we have a brand new turntable review and honestly, this was a review that I plan to get out before the first of the year. However, I kind of sat on it for a minute because I wanted to be really sure about what I was hearing and whether or not this turntable was as good. As I believed it to be of course that means we are reviewing none other than flew on Cesare t85.
The fluence RT 85 really was kind of a late addition to the review slate and as a result, I thought of it as a budget table but as I spent more time with it I realized that it was a lot more like some of the higher-priced models that I reviewed in 2019.
But I wanted to be doubly sure and I even went so far as to get some of these other turntables these higher-priced turntables in the house. In order to make direct comparisons because I didn’t want to go too far out on a limb with what I’m about to tell you but before we get to the performance.
It comes in two finishes gloss black or gloss walnut which we’ll talk about in a moment. It has a speed selection dialled knob switch whatever you want to call it for thirty-three and a third and 45 rpm. It features a three-pound acrylic platter that’s right I said a three-pound acrylic platter this is something that is decidedly high-end in terms of features that are normally not found on turntables.
The arty 85 features an aluminum S-shaped tonearm. With a bayonet mount or DJ style kind of headshell cartridge configuration and it is a moving magnet cartridge in the form of an order Fon 2m blue which we are going to discuss in just a moment and lastly there is no internal phono preamp built into this particular model.
Therefore purist turntable in which case it is meant to be connected to an outboard or third-party phono preamp fluence does make one of these as well as a host of other companies offering dedicated phono preamps or to go directly into the phono preamp input on the back of your preamp or integrated amp.
I would argue that you might be correct in some instances, for example, the plinth is MDF and the finish while looking good from afar is a little bit more on the bargain side but again the finish doesn’t necessarily contribute to the sound quality and finish is subjective.
You may find the gloss black or gloss walnut to be much to your taste in liking but the three-pound acrylic platter is not something that can be overlooked that is a feature that is just not found on a number of turntables at or near this price point and it makes a difference equally impressive is the S-shaped tonearm.
