My first impression when unboxing the Flex Belt is that it looks like a piece of medical equipment, not something you’d see your average person wearing around. It came with a belt, a power pack, and various electrodes which clip onto the belt. As well as some straps for securing it all into place.

Although I thought this was going to be fun – it’s probably not something I would buy for myself. It is essentially an electronic device that you strap onto your stomach in order to “trick” the nerves into thinking that you are exercising. This stimulates your muscles into action, much like when you go for a run or lift weights. The result should be stronger abdominal muscles over time.
It is not for everyone though – there are lots of disclaimers on the Flex Belt website about who it should and shouldn’t be used by. It is also not a magic wand that will give you the perfect body overnight, you do have to use it diligently if you want to see results.
How does it Work?
In short, it stimulates your muscles into action.
The Flex Belt is an electronic “muscle stimulator” that works on a similar principle to acupuncture by sending electrical impulses through the skin to stimulate the underlying muscles. These signals are sent from a machine worn around the waist and electrically stimulated through two pads placed on either side of the stomach. There are three modes so you can choose which part of your abs to focus on – upper, middle, or lower.
Easy to use
I started off lying down with the belt on my couch and the TV remote in my hand… but after a couple of weeks, I got bored watching endless episodes of Dexter that I decided to do while doing some chores around the house.
It’s surprisingly easy to use, but I definitely recommend doing it lying down first so you know where the pads need to be placed on your stomach and so you don’t accidentally pull or twist anything. You basically just press “start” and allow yourself a few minutes of toning time.
There are three modes to choose from, you can go with the automatic program which basically does it all for you or manual where your muscles will be doing all the work. If in doubt, I’d stick to the automatic mode until you feel confident that this is something you want to do on a more regular basis.
